Outbreak at Brockville General Hospital

BGH declares enteric outbreak on two inpatient units
March 13, 2017 - Brockville General Hospital has declared an enteric outbreak in the hospital’s 1 East and 2 East inpatient units.  Both units are located in the Charles Street building.

BGH’s Infection Control team has implemented cleaning and containment protocols to limit the spread of infection.  Affected patients have been isolated in the units.
BGH has notified the local Public Health Unit, who is also monitoring the outbreak. The Hospital will advise the public once the outbreak has been declared over.
While the units are not formally closed to visitors, BGH strongly urges patients’ families and friends to limit all non-essential visits until the outbreak is declared over. In the event that visits are necessary, the Hospital stresses the importance of good hand hygiene (hand washing and hand sanitizer) to prevent the spread of infection.
Quote

“It is unfortunate our community continues to see these enteric outbreaks.  Over the weekend, hospital staff worked quickly with our partners at the Health Unit to determine and isolate the outbreak.  The health and safety of our people – our patients, visitors, staff, physicians, and volunteers - is our top priority.  We are asking everyone to remember proper hand washing is the best way to prevent the spread of the illness.” – Jeanette Despatie, Acting CEO
