Service Description: Supports for adults 60 years and older to help remain independent in their own homes for as long as possible * referral to other community services * supports are flexible, personalized, responsive and least intrusive * supports for caregivers

55 Alive Mature Driver Classroom Refresher Course - Designed to help older adults improve their driving knowledge and ability * concentration on the physical changes of older people as they relate to vision, reading and medication * focuses on the major problems which are common to older drivers * sessions are made up of lectures, slide presentations, group discussions and instructor guidance * no on road driving * instructors are trained by Canada Safety Council * six hour course (9am-3pm) * low registration fee includes workbook and light lunch * space is limited * call to register
Caregiver Support Group - One-on-one support from a trained coordinator and group supports for caregivers, including family and friends
Community Care's Thrift Shop - Sells used goods that people donate including:
Dinners for Seniors - Group meals and social activities
Escorted Transportation - Non-emergency escorted transportation to local and long-distance medical appointments and regular activities such as grocery shopping * trips or medial appointments can be made locally to Belleville, Kingston, Toronto, Ottawa and other areas * volunteer drivers stay with the client for the trip
Family Support - Peer support groups, education, and training for family members, service providers, and caregivers * sessions may include information such as community-based services for older adults and safety issues
Fitness and Recreational Programs for Seniors - Walking program * Tai Chi * Wii Bowling League
Foot Care Clinic - Picton - Maintenance, basic and advanced foot care provided by a registered nurse at regular community clinics * foot care includes care of corns, calluses, fungal nails, and filing and trimming of nails
Foot Care Clinic - Rossmore - Basic (maintenance) and advanced foot care provided by a registered nurse at regular community clinics * foot care includes care of corns, calluses, fungal nails, and filing and trimming of nails * most clients return every 4-6 weeks for regular appointments
Foot Care Clinic - Wellington - Basic (maintenance) and advanced foot care provided by a registered nurse at regular community clinics * foot care includes care of corns, calluses, fungal nails, and filing and trimming of nails * most clients return every 4-6 weeks for regular appointments
Friendly Visiting - Regular volunteer visits to older adults and people with disabilities, who live alone
Help With Forms - Help with forms including income tax * assistance available with federal or provincial programs such as:
  • Old Age Security
  • Spouse's Allowance
  • Canada Pension Plan
  • Guaranteed Assistance Income Supplement (GAINS)
  • Income Tax
  • Ontario Energy Support Program (OESP)
  • other forms that may require assistance
Home Help and Homemaking and Respite - Referrals to screened workers * help is available with yard and garden work, light and heavy housework, meal preparation, and respite * both during the day and overnight * 
Home Maintenance Service - Screened brokered workers provide services for a fee such as:
  • snow removal/shoveling
  • yard work
  • window washing
  • minor repairs
Information and Referral - One-on-one supports for coordinating services, including personal advocacy * interventions for people facing homelessness, critical life changes, abuse, or isolation * referrals to other community services as necessary
Meals on Wheels - Hot and Frozen - Hot and frozen meal delivery service
Reassurance Program for Seniors Living on Rural Routes - Supported by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers and Canada Post * older adults who live on a rural route and wish to participate must contact the Prince Edward Community Care to request that their mail carrier keep a friendly eye open for any signs that they might need help
Reassurance Telephone Calls - Regular phone calls to older adults to check on their health and safety * older adults who live alone often sign up for this * checks are done by trained volunteers
Seminars for Seniors and Caregivers - Provides seminars for seniors & caregivers on issues such as:
  • wills
  • power of attorney
  • medication awareness
  • rent review
  • fraud
  • downsizing
  • seniors and technology
  • other topics of interest
