Providence Care is southeastern Ontario’s leading provider of specialized mental health care, physical medicine and rehabilitation, specialized geriatric services, complex continuing care, palliative care and longterm care. Providence Care Hospital, our new state of the art hospital, opened in April 2017. Our hospital is the first publicly-funded hospital in North America to fully integrate long-term mental health and psychiatry programs with physical rehabilitation, palliative care and complex care. The entire hospital has been designed to be welcoming and inclusive of all people, no matter what age, ability or needs.

Position:  Registered Practical Nurse – Medical Programs

Region:  Frontenac & Kingston

Description:  As a member of an interprofessional team, the role of the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) at Providence Care is to deliver safe, effective, person-centred care to assigned patients in a non-acute setting as outlined by hospital policies and procedures and the Standards of Nursing Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario. Working under full scope of practice, the overall function of the RPN is to assist patients and their caregivers to manage clinical conditions and transitions and enhance quality of life by meeting the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of each person.

Education & Experience:
• Active, unrestricted license to practice with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Current CPR certificate
• College certificate required, diploma preferred
• Medication Certificate dated after 1985 which meets the requirements of the Ontario College of Nurses, if graduated before 1985

Key Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Experience providing care for Complex Medical patients, mechanically ventilated patients is an asset
• Demonstrated patient-centred attitude and commitment to the Mission, Vision, Values and goals of the department and of Providence Care
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team member through collaboration, respect and effective communication
• Demonstrated effectiveness working with minimal supervision with proven reliability and trustworthiness, to deliver safe and effective patient centred care
• Demonstrated commitment to evidence based and best practices
• Demonstrated commitment to healthy workplace culture
• Knowledge of professional standards of practice
• Demonstrated professional work attitude and behaviours in interactions with internal and external contacts as evidenced by strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize work effectively, manage a full work-load and meet deadlines in a busy environment with frequent interruptions
• Demonstrated understanding and commitment to health and safety policies, procedures and applicable legislation
• Demonstrated good physical condition to meet the physical demands of the position
• Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly
• Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check & Vulnerable Sector Screen for external candidates if hired; must be an original copy, current within last six months
• Bilingual in French and English language, preferred


Salary:  To be negotiated

Terms of Employment:  Part-Time
