Brockville General Hospital is a growing community hospital, located on the St. Lawrence River in Brockville, Ontario.


At Brockville General Hospital (BGH), we provide acute care (emergency, intensive care, medical/surgical care), Complex Continuing Care, Rehabilitation, Palliative Care, Mental Health and Additions, and a Women and Children’s Program. We offer ambulatory and specialty clinics, including orthopaedics, the Brockville Cardiovascular Program, Acute Stroke Clinic, and Ontario Breast Screening. Our mental health program includes inpatient care, the Mental Health Crisis Team of Leeds and Grenville, and the Assertive Community Treatment Team of Leeds, Grenville and South Lanark.

Position:  Psychologist

Region:  Leeds & Grenville

Description:  Reporting administratively to the Program Manager, the Psychologist is responsible for offering a full range of clinical psychology services to clients with acute, and/or severe and persistent mental illnesses in a facility and/or community setting. Working as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team, the Psychologist provides assessment, treatment, and consultation services, together with collaboration with community resources to help meet the mental health needs of the individual. The Psychologist works in accordance with BGH policies and the regulations of the College of Psychologists of Ontario.

Education, Specific Training:

• Ph.D. in Psychology from an accredited post-secondary institution.

• Current Registration in good standing with the College of Psychologists of Ontario and be able to supervise student placements.

• A Valid Class G Ontario driver’s license, current driver’s abstract and proof of current vehicle insurance required to participate in community programming, meetings and traveling to satellite offices.

• Demonstrated commitment to learning and professional development as evidenced by participation in programs, courses, seminars that enhance skills and knowledge.

• Knowledge of the science and practices of psychology including a full range of psychotherapeutic and assessment techniques.

• Clinical knowledge/expertise and experience in treatment modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy etc.



Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

• Knowledge of applicable federal and provincial statutes relating to the practice of Psychology.

• Knowledge of community resources, services and related regulations to make appropriate referrals into the community.

• Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations that apply to the work, and knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the workplace.

• Highly developed analytical skills in determining the most appropriate diagnostic approach from a range of alternatives.

• Demonstrated ability to work cohesively within a team of multi-disciplinary professionals as well as independently and ability to supervise student placements.

• Above average communication skills and ability to express specialised technical terminology and complex ideas in clear terms.

• Interpersonal skills to maintain strong working relationships with multidisciplinary staff and community agencies as well as clients and their families.

• Excellent organizational and coordination skills.

• Expertise in complex trauma and PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) strongly preferred

• Ability to maintain the strictest level of confidentiality, discretion and sensitivity in accordance with the Personal Health Information Protection Act.

• Knowledge and experience with organizing and maintaining a computerized database.

• Good attendance and availability required.
